I entered a couple of artworks in the Iowa State Fair this past summer in the fiber arts category. I didn’t have high hopes of even having work accepted, as there are many people who enter each year. I was pleasantly surprised when two artworks were accepted. My Specimen artwork got a third place! I’mContinue reading “Iowa State Fair Embroidery”

Bluebird Lino Cut Cards
I haven’t posted much here lately, as I have not been creating very much. I made these up for greeting cards/gifts for neighbors and friends. Bluebirds have always had a special place in my heart. Our little hilltop has always been a prolific bluebird area and it quickly became the namesake of our hilltop –Continue reading “Bluebird Lino Cut Cards”
Nebraska Embroidery
With the start of the school year looming, I’m trying to wrap up some unfinished projects around here. This particular embroidery was started over spring break. I tried to add a few details, but ultimately ended up ripping them all out, and instead opting for a simple landscape. You can find it for sale here.Continue reading “Nebraska Embroidery”
Waffle Series Pronto Prints
This is another pronto plate series I printed during my spring printing class at the Des Moines Art Center. The inspiration comes from my family’s love of eating waffles and our recent addition of a flock of ten hens for egg-laying purposes. I started with a printing the waffles. Pronto plate is a modern takeContinue reading “Waffle Series Pronto Prints”
Superior Rocks
Oof this artwork was a long time in the making. It was one that took so much waiting between layers and materials that I stalled out many times. The rocks are a mixture of magazine collage, collage from paintings, and real lake stones. The water is layers of tissue paper, acrylic paint, and gel medium.
Winter Tabby
I don’t always remember to document the process of my art, but collage lends itself particularly well to this. I always have an image in my head when I begin an artwork. My perfectionism hinders my speed at times. For whatever reason, I find that collage is the media where the outcome most often matchesContinue reading “Winter Tabby”
Object Stamped (Wrapping) Paper
Object stamping is one of my favorite artistic processes to do with young artists. There is something so magical about scrounging around for everyday items and with a little paint transforming them into beautiful works of patterns, richly layered designs, and textured papers just waiting to be used or simply happy to be an artworkContinue reading “Object Stamped (Wrapping) Paper”
Birthday Art
Call Me Old Fashioned, watercolor, 12×9″, 2019. Just before my sister’s birthday, I always troll her Pinterest page looking for artful ideas for her, and several times old fashioned drinks popped up. This was perfect since we both share a love for all bourbon based drinks. I’d like to change up the blue lettering andContinue reading “Birthday Art”
Mona
Mona, Collage, watercolor, marker, color pencil, 2019. I started this Mona Lisa homage years ago, as a magazine face collaged on to a black marker drawing. At that time, I was sorely missing the coastal parts of North Carolina, which had been our home state for eight years. I just rediscovered this unfinished piece inContinue reading “Mona”
Roasted Beet & Carrot Tart
I love love love love fall. This fall has been supremely more busy than most of the previous autumnal seasons combined, for our family. But, so it goes. I got my recent Martha Stewart in the mail last week and was itching to do some baking – it has been far far too long sinceContinue reading “Roasted Beet & Carrot Tart”
